Why we need a digital makeover<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The current AMT constitution is a bit of an archaeological lucky dip of communication and office technology. Buried in its clauses, fax machines are still considered cutting-edge innovation. Meanwhile, we have an entire generation or two of AMT members who have never experienced the unique, high pitched, plaintive tinkling of one fax machine trying to talk to another. We can fix that with 10 Minutes of retro office white noise for focus and relaxation<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, we also need to fix an awful lot of retro white noise in the constitution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resolution to update the language in the constitution to reflect digital means of communication and administration will eliminate the weird disconnect between constitutional theory and AMT’s operational reality. This is especially significant for us in light of AMT’s recent office transition, which saw us digitise paper member files that filled 10 filing cabinets to bursting. Essentially, the proposed change removes the legal fiction that we’re still operating with physical filing systems that we literally donated to charity three months ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Modern provisions for electronic member registers, digital communications, and online voting enable better member engagement, reduce administrative burden, and lower operational costs. This change will also future proof the constitution by establishing frameworks for digital processes rather than prescribing specific outdated technologies, allowing the association to adapt to new tools without requiring constitutional amendments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
