Back to the future

By Rebecca Barnett

“The time has come,” the Walrus said,

“To talk of many things:

Of KPIs and CEOs

And strategic hirings.”

Yes, that is the sound of Lewis Carroll rising from his grave and tendering his resignation, effective immediately. The scansion alone would send your average metronome into early retirement.

But I am getting behind myself already.

AMT is hiring!

After 18 months of the gruesome, behind-the-scenes work of making the governance sausage, AMT is finally ready to toss some bangers in the pan and fry up a full cooked breakfast. But you can take a metaphor too far so let me put this in plainer terms:

The time has indeed come. The AMT Board has begun actively recruiting for a new CEO to lead AMT.

We’re looking for someone who knows when to swim against the tide … who can stir the pot without setting fire to the kitchen … who understands that sometimes the most important thing a CEO can do is say the thing that nobody else in the room will say.

If you happen to be the unicorn who knows the industry inside out and has relevant C-suite experience, so much the better!

Sweariness is entirely optional. (I have, quite generously, covered that specific competency for the foreseeable future.)

Does any of the above sound like you or someone you know?

If “yes” then the actual details, including the full position description and recruitment info, can be accessed here. Normal sentences. No bad Lewis Carroll takes. No sausages or swearing.

The AMT Board welcomes all applicants with relevant background and experience. Applications close on May 5 but reach out to us if you’re only just seeing this call out 5 minutes before deadline –  we may still be able to accept your application. Please read the recruitment package document for all the relevant information on how to apply.

It’s not quite time for me to say “so long and thanks for all the fish” (we’re planning on a steady, methodical handover). But I’m quietly excited. The right person is out there. Maybe you know them. Maybe you are them. Either way, watch this space.

About the author

Rebecca Barnett has been interim Executive Officer of AMT since March 2024. She will forgive you if you’re experiencing a sense of déjà vu. This is not hers or AMT’s first rodeo.

She likes to sing but she won’t be doing a Dame Nellie Melba. One operatic comeback tour is enough.
